COLORADO GHOST HUNTERS

THE LADY IN BLACK

November 1, 2007

HISTORY

Numerous internet websites have posted the "folk legend" of the woman that appears at John Edward Cameron's gravesite, wearing a black satin dress, at sunset on November 1 each year supposedly placing Columbine flowers on the grave site. One website claims that the folk legend is as old as 1899. Others say that people have tried to literally capture her, but their the attempts always fail.

PRELIMINARY INVESTIGATION

EQUIPMENT LIST:

  1. Sony Handycam DCR-HC90
  2. Olympus VN-480PC digital voice recorder
  3. Kodak CX4200 digital camera
  4. JVC DVM60ME digital video cassettes
  5. TDK D90 tape recorder cassettes

AREAS OF CONCERN:

  1. John Edward Cameron's grave site

WALK THROUGH:

Upon arriving at the site there were already two vehicles parked, indicating that there were people coming to see what would happen. Coming into the cemetery we noticed about five people standing around the shed of the cemetery. Tad placed the digital voice recorder at the very base of the main headstone. Both Misty and Tad sat about fifty yards to the southwest of the main headstone. During this time Tad continued to film the area of concern while Misty took occasional digital photographs.

As the time progressed and the sun sank lower into the sky more people continued to show up at the cemetery. Other people started to park just north of the location on the other side of the fencing nearest the grave site. While trying to conduct the E.V.P. experiment people continued to talk louder and louder. By the end of the investigation it was clear that any kind of audio recording was going to be contaminated. Any hope of capturing evidence would be using the digital camera or video camera.

CONCLUSION:

Most of the history of this folklore seems to be a "cut and paste" scenario. These websites seem to try and generate content by using this method. Unfortunately, there is no specific historic article that we have found yet to document this occurrence.

The only possible way to obtain any kind of real evidence would be on a day that no one actually showed up to the "event." At last count about twenty people had come to the cemetery. If you are the thrill seeking type and just want a chance to see a ghost, we suppose this would be right up that alley. Any attempt at E.V.P. experimentation will otherwise be contaminated. Best chance would be to use digital camera or video equipment.

Although it is the belief of the Colorado Ghost Hunters that more than likely this situation will continue to pass on as folklore. There is no convincing evidence that has been found on the internet or otherwise. We will continue the search for anything related to this legend that has been documented.

Unfortunately upon reviewing the evidence there were no useable results.
